Presentation of the project of pilot digital terrestrial broadcasting in nine regional centers of Ukraine was held on February 4, 2010 in the studio complex of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Videoconferencing united all regions of Ukraine. Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Vinnitsa, Zaporozhye, Simferopol, Nikolaev, Ternopil and Uzhhorod - regional centers, where from today have come digital television - clearly demonstrated the willingness to go to the "digital".
"Ukraine has made another step towards implementation of modern technologies of television broadcasting, based on the use of digital standards," - said in his speech Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications - Head of State Administration of Communications Mr. Mykola Gonchar.
As was emphasized during the presentation, the State must take a package of measures to protect national interests in broadcasting, to create conditions for gradual transition to new digital technologies without losing the sizes of broadcasting and viewing audience.
In particular, for this it is necessary to introduce in the bands 174-230 MHz and 470-862 MHz digital television radio broadcasting of DVB-T standard. Also, according to international treaty on planning for digital television "Geneva 2006", to create 81 synchronous zones of digital broadcasting using MPEG-4 standard, which allows you to transmit on one frequency up to 9 television and 6 radio channels. In total, each synchronous area can numbers 40-70 channels.
Today, experimental digital television broadcasting is already introduced in twelve regions of Ukraine. Thus, digital television covered the territory, where about 30% of population of Ukraine inhabit - is one of the best indicators among post-Soviet countries.
The project is implemented by effective cooperation of large group of specialists of BRT Concern, Ukrainian State Center of Radio Frequencies, UKRTELECOM open joint stock company and Research and Production Enterprise "KVANT- EFIR" - a national manufacturer of modern television transmitters.
